The one whodraws the plan
In Masonic thought the Grand Architect is the intelligence that designed the universe before any of it was built. Danny Hurtado took the name because it describes the job exactly: nothing worth having gets made before it gets drawn.
Grand Architect
Freemasonry does not tell its members what to believe. It gives them a single, deliberately open name for whatever intelligence set things in motion — the Great Architect of the Universe — and then spends most of its symbolism on tools. Compasses. A square. A plumb line. A rough block of stone and the same block finished.
Danny is not interested in the secrecy or the ceremony. He is interested in the tools, because they describe how good work actually gets made. You measure. You draw. You take a raw thing and you work it, patiently, into the shape it was always capable of being. Then you stand back and check it against something true.
That is a tattoo. It is also why this shop is not named after a person or an animal or a piece of equipment.
This ain’t flash art. This is built from scratch.

Twenty years, and still drawing
Danny Hurtado has been tattooing for over twenty years. His specialism is black and grey realism — portraits, photo-real work, and the cover-ups that need someone who can build a design around whatever is already there. It is the least forgiving corner of the trade, because everyone can tell instantly when a face is wrong.
He is also a painter and a muralist, and a father of three. The art does not sit separately from the tattooing; it is the same practice with a different surface, and it is why the drawing stage here takes as long as it takes.
The reason there is a shop
Grand Architect exists because the alternative was working somewhere that treated tattooing as volume. A shop where the drawing gets rushed, where the answer to a difficult cover-up is something bigger and blacker, and where nobody tells you the honest thing because the honest thing loses the booking.
So the standards here are set deliberately and they are not negotiable. Every piece is designed for the person and the placement. Consultations are free and carry no obligation. If we cannot do something well, we say so and point you somewhere that can — including telling you to go and get laser first, which costs us the session and gets you a better tattoo.
The rest of the crew were brought in on the same terms.
Somewhere you would stay a while
The inside does not look like a tattoo shop from a film. It looks like a room somebody has been collecting for — artwork on the walls, old tools, objects that came from somewhere, and enough records and low light that a six-hour sitting does not feel like six hours in a clinic.
It is closer to a late-sixties listening room than a studio: warm, a little eclectic, and cleaner than you expect a place with that much character to be. Sterile where it counts, comfortable everywhere else.
We are open seven days a week, which a lot of shops around here are not. Nobody should have to take a day off work to get tattooed, and a piece worth doing properly should not have to wait for a gap in someone else’s Tuesday.
